We arrived in Florence and were unable to find cheap lodging so left for the campground. We were able to rent a tent that you can stand up in with cots and bedding for 24 euro a night it was great they had a cafe, laundry and grocery store along with an incredible view of the city and were set in an olive grove.
The Piazza della Signoria overwhelmed us with the statues of David and the forum filled with priceless statues we just stood in the Piazza and slowly rotated around we were surrounded on each side by the glory of the renaissance.
We rounded a street corner at dusk and caught our breath as we first glimpsed the Duomo. The white, green and pink marble facade rose to top everything else around and just glowed in the evening light. We´ve seen a lot of churches on this trip but the size, the marble and the incredible light made us stop and just absorb its beauty!

It is so neat that you have now been to some of the same places as myself, when I visited Italy. The Duomo, was one of the cathedrals that my choir did an impromptu concert in. It was amazing to sing in there. I have always called it the Beatlejuice church because I could never remember the name. I also saw the Statue of David and got to see the filming of Hanabal in the square outside the museum. It was really interesting!

What an incredible experience. One of our tour guides talked about the movie Hanibal and said that that scene is based where the guy is hung from the tower is based on a true killing there. She said it is very true to life. A rival family to the Medici´s killed one of the Medici brothers in the Duomo on Easter Sunday in a conspiracy to overthrow the Medici family that went way up to the pope. The Medici´s killed the family and hung the one from the tower and then went on to appoint 2 of their family as cardinals which both later became popes. It was so fascinating and Florence is one of our favorite cities!
